Years pet food recall: information for pet owners

We’re aware of the voluntary recall announced by Years and understand that pet owners who feed these products may have questions or concerns.

The wellbeing of pets always comes first. Years is not a member of UK Pet Food, but we are following developments closely and are in contact with veterinary nutrition experts and colleagues across the pet food sector.

What should I do if I feed my dog Years pet food?

Years has recalled its fresh meals as a precautionary measure while it investigates reports of sudden dry eye in a small number of dogs. If you have purchased one of the recalled products, please follow the advice provided by Years and stop feeding the affected food.

If you notice any symptoms or have concerns about your dog’s health, please contact your vet for advice.

For the latest information about the recall and affected products, please visit Years' recall information.

Is buckwheat safe for dogs?

Buckwheat is used as an ingredient in both human and pet foods and is widely consumed around the world. Years has identified a potential link with buckwheat as part of its investigation. Its latest update says the investigation is focused on potential contamination within a portion of its buckwheat supply, rather than buckwheat itself. As the investigation is ongoing, we don’t want to speculate about what may have caused the reported reactions.

What is UK Pet Food doing?

We are following the investigation closely and are in contact with our veterinary nutrition experts. We have also reached out directly to Years and will continue to review the information available as the investigation develops.

We know that product recalls can understandably raise questions for pet owners. Our priority is to provide clear, factual information and avoid drawing wider conclusions until the evidence is available.
