HR JAM JAR hosts a session for the secretariat and our members on Sexual Harassment Awareness & Prevention.

This course is a practical, thought-provoking session designed to empower organisations to build safer, more inclusive cultures. Covering:

  • Legal updates
  • How to identify and prevent harassment
  • Societal norms we may unconsciously tolerate
  • How to handle complaints with confidence and care.

With real case studies and clear actions for managers, this course is essential for any modern workplace.

In the UK, there is no specific legal requirement that all companies must provide sexual harassment training—but employers are legally obliged to prevent harassment in the workplace under the Equality Act 2010. This was tightened last year (oct 24) so more focus now.

Here’s what that means in practice:

Employers must:

  • Take reasonable steps to prevent harassment, including sexual harassment.
  • Create a workplace culture that does not tolerate inappropriate behaviour.
  • Respond appropriately to complaints.

Why training matters:

If an employee is harassed, and the employer hasn’t provided training or taken proactive steps, the company may be held vicariously liable—even if they weren’t directly involved.

Providing training can:

  • Be a key defence in employment tribunal claims.
  • Show that the business took reasonable steps to prevent harassment.
  • Help protect staff and reduce legal, reputational, and cultural risks
