Introduction to the National Food Crime Unit (NFCU) Industry Desktop Exercise
We are pleased to share that the National Food Crime Unit’s (NFCU) Prevention Team is offering UK Pet Food members the opportunity to participate in a free, interactive desktop exercise designed to strengthen industry resilience against food crime.
This first session will be offered exclusively to our Raw sector members. By focusing on a single format group, we can ensure the discussion, scenarios, and learning points are highly relevant to the specific challenges faced within raw feeding supply chains. Additional, format-specific sessions will be arranged depending on member interest. If demand exceeds capacity, we will schedule further sessions; if interest is low, we may combine groups to ensure the exercise remains collaborative and effective.
This facilitated session will guide participants through a realistic food crime scenario, supported by structured discussion points to help teams reflect, evaluate, and improve their response processes. It provides a valuable chance to explore how your organisation would act during a suspected food fraud incident, what decisions would need to be made, who would need to be informed, and how best to minimise risks to animal and public health, brand reputation, and the wider supply chain.
20 spaces are available on a first-come, first-served basis.
The exercise aims to build confidence and capability across the sector by deepening understanding of:
- The essential process steps and communication channels that come into play during a food fraud incident.
- The roles of internal teams and external stakeholders, including the NFCU as a single point of contact.
- Effective decision-making under pressure, supported by examples of good practice and common pitfalls to avoid.
By working through a realistic scenario in a safe and collaborative environment, participants will have the opportunity to:
- Strengthen fraud resilience and prevention strategies.
- Recognise the types of information needed to support a food crime investigation.
- Understand proportionality in enforcement and the importance of timely evidence gathering.
- Identify internal and external stakeholders and how they contribute to risk mitigation.
- Test elements of their organisation’s emergency response plan specific to food crime.
Please log in to register by 16 January 2026.
We encourage Raw members to take advantage of this targeted training offer, which provides meaningful insight and practical learning for anyone involved in quality, compliance, supply chain, regulatory affairs, or incident response.
