The day began with a new breakfast session led by Allison Reser of the Pet Sustainability Coalition, a UK Pet Food Associate Member. Her reflections on sustainability, innovation and shifting consumer expectations set the tone for a forward-looking programme focused on long-term resilience and responsible growth.

Throughout the morning, speakers shared insight on the forces shaping “Pet Food 3.0” in practice. Louis Bedwell of Food for Thought explored the role of AI and emerging technologies in the pet sector, while Tasmin Sibbald of Vypr examined changing consumer behaviours and expectations. Simon Ellis of Pets at Home provided a retail perspective on evolving shopper trends, alongside contributions from Nicola Lakeman, who reflected on communication, trust and the future of pet nutrition.

The sessions highlighted key themes including the rise of AI-generated content, the management of nutritional misinformation, transparency in communication and the growing importance of supporting pets’ health span through evidence-based nutrition.

To close the morning, speakers came together for an interactive panel discussion chaired by Dr Matthew Elliott, and welcomed a younger voice in Jayson Hughes, president of the Association of Veterinary Students. The conversation encouraged open dialogue around innovation, regulation, sustainability and the industry’s ongoing responsibility to deliver safe, nutritious food while maintaining public trust.

“We attended the Annual Convention at Stationers’ Hall which was a great opportunity to catch up with familiar faces and hear some insightful sessions on the role of AI in the pet sector, the work of the Pet Sustainability Coalition, and the importance of nutrition in supporting pets’ health span.”

The strong turnout and lively engagement throughout the event reflected a sector that is ambitious, collaborative and focused on the future.

UK Pet Food’s Annual Convention continues to serve as a key moment in the industry calendar,  bringingtogether expertise, encouraging shared learning and reinforcing the organisation’s commitment to a trusted, science-led and forward-thinking pet food sector.
