1. Net Zero
UK Pet Food is leading the sector’s efforts to address the causes and consequences of climate change and to help build a more sustainable, resilient food system for pets and people alike.
Achieving a 50% reduction in emissions across the pet food supply chain by 2030 is an ambitious goal that will require strong collaboration and action from farm to bowl. UK Pet Food is supporting members on this journey by sharing guidance, highlighting best practice, and co-creating solutions with the industry and a wider network of organisations.
Why is action needed?
Climate change poses an urgent threat to the planet and is already disrupting global food systems through extreme weather, biodiversity loss, and resource scarcity.
With nearly a quarter of the UK’s total emissions linked to food production, reducing greenhouse gas emissions is critical to protecting the long-term security and sustainability of our food supply - for both people and pets.
As part of the wider agrifood system, the UK pet food sector has a vital role in cutting carbon emissions. UK pet food manufacturers are reducing emissions by working with suppliers to reduce emissions from ingredients, reducing energy consumption in production and switching to renewable fuels, while tackling emissions associated with packaging and distribution.
